HTMLCONV Mk5 Instructions.
A server for Winpack

HTMLCONV.EXE - Version 5 Written by G4FJQ in 1997.

This is a Winpack version 6.2/3 server that converts all outgoing mail to HTML, as long as it isn't 7plus, a cor file, or already HTML. Putting <NO> in the text of the message on a line of its own (and it must be in CAPITALS) tells it not to convert the message to HTML so you can still mail those who cannot display or do not like HTML. It removes the <NO> of course. Put it onto your hard disc where you choose, then, in the \winpack\servers\send directory set-up a shortcut to it that runs minimised and closes when done. It works well on my system in Win95. It should be OK in Windows 3.1n, but I have no way to try it. This is an improvement on previous versions and makes use of the widely used HTMLIB library.

This is freeware and must not be charged for or used as a give away in a sales deal. Future versions will always be free, so this will never become an advertisement, just a small free programme.

In this the 5th upgrade, I have included some commands you can imbed into the message to tell the server to add certain images from a HTMLIB directory containing images G7OCW distributed some time ago. My thanks to Diane G4XBI for the idea. I have also made the server display quoted lines (Those beginning with a > symbol.) separated and left justified i4n red. while the rest of the text is black. Imbedded commands on quoted lines will not be replaced by the image as it one doesn't alter someone else's text when quoted.

Here is a list of the imbedded codes:-

(tick) as ..\htmlib\rdcheck.gif
(g*) as ..\htmlib\stargd.gif
(s*) as ..\htmlib\starsv.gif
(b*) as ..\htmlib\starbz.gif
(*) as ..\htmlib\web013a.gif
() as ..\htmlib\disk.gif
:-) as ..\htmlib\anismile.gif
(ok) as ..\htmlib\ok.gif
(st1) as ..\htmlib\strip1.gif
(st2) as ..\htmlib\bar-1.gif
(st) produces a line that doesn't need an image.

You can alter these and define another 11 yourself by editing the file it generates called htmlcnv5.fjq if you wish.

If the station you are sending to doesn't have the HTMLIB directory containing the images then there is no point adding these as they will just cause the browser to show the missing picture icon. if the background image isn't present at the other end then it will default to a toned down yellow (Changeable in the config file.) so just by not using the imbedded commands a respectable page can be sent to anyone using HTML.

Note:
Anyone not having the full set of images can make a directory off the Winpack directory called HTMLIB and copy the JPG and GIF files from the zip file this HTML page came from. This will be all that is required to get the full benefit when receiving messages sent with this server (As long as the HTMLCNV5.FJQ is not altered at the senders end.

This new version generates a configuration file called HTMLCNV5.FJQ which can be altered in any editor such as Notepad in Windows or EDIT in DOS. The lines starting with a semicolon are there as a guide and are not used by the programme. Those with a knowledge of HTML can alter these parameters allowing some personalisation of the result. Should you mess up then just delete HTMLCNV5.FJQ and the next time the server runs it will make a new one containing its defaults.
